From the sound of my children playing upstairs.
To the sight of the furniture awash with cat hairs.
A lowly rumble of a washing machine on spin.
A favourite TV theme teases an audible grin.
A blanket of leaves that lay strewn on the lawn.
The annoying alarm that wakes me each dawn.
The feeling of safety when tucked up in my bed.
Familiar faces that are now stored in my head.
I lie here amazed at the seemingly mundane.
It’s astounding what boredom does to the brain.
Awaiting the sensation of my wife's loving kiss.
That is now added to all these things that I miss.
